, the police and fbi are investigating a bank robbery that was so strange it could have been a movie plot. tj tells us tonight the robbers [inaudible]. >> reporter: a manhunt continues on the west coast for two gun men who reportedly kidnapped a bank manager and put a bomb on her before telling her to rob her own bank. >> significant amount of money was taken. >> reporter: the nightmare allegedly started around 8 wednesday morning the two men approached her outside her home as she was leaving for work. she told police the men allegedly armed with guns and wearing see masks ordered her to strap a device on and drive to the bank of america. police say she did as she was told, first opening the vault. >> she took the money out of the bank and threw it out the door. >> reporter: the robber who never set foot inside the building made their escape before cops and the bomb squad arrived on the scene. >> that's a very rare thing to actually remove a device directly from a person but it's something that the bomb squad, investigators trained for. >> reporter: a bomb squad robot detonated the device

the system opens on monday morning. >>> the fbi is trying to track down the person behind the airline hoax. the culprit called police this morning and they said a particular passenger would try to carry a dangerous substance on to the u.s. airways flight from philadelphia to dallas. that flight was already in the air, but the plane quickly returned to philadelphia. police, they detained the passenger who was named by the caller and searched the plane, but they did not find anything dangerous. it resulted in really a big threat to all the passengers. >> reporter: they said the person that made the phone call could be looking at pretty stiff criminal charges. >> yeah, note remotely there. >> it seems like they have a smart day to make you feel connected to your friends, to help you find direction. just about anything you need. >> reporter: but at what point did the applications become an addiction? well, a recent survey here finds 65% of the respondents say they cannot live without their phones. 40% say they would give out coffees first. 18% said they would stop bathing every day before part

confirmed a police car was parked outside the woman's home overnight. yesterday when the fbi was asked if the bank manager might be in on the heist -- >> unless evidence suggests that to investigators, we're treating this employees as a victim. >> reporter: the bank robbers outfitted her with a device that appeared to be a bomb and forced her to take money from the east l.a. bank of america branch where she worked. the device was detonated. it wasn't real. the robbers got away with a substantial amount of money. today detectives left the bank megger's home with boxes and evidence bags. they weren't talking, but neighbors were. some expressed doubts about the details of the heist. >> a little.
